I agree that you have to just take a point in time and say "we're using
this design, perhaps we could do better if we spent X weeks, but it's good
enough right now". However, this is the first new design proposed, so, I
would argue that a deadline of say Wednesday next week should be set for
design submissions, and the best one at that time gets implemented.
