I think where AOLserver shines is on multiprocessor boxes with heavy db
connections. Other than that the fact that PHP is a mod on Apache should
make them closer in dynamic page handling on a single processor box.

The db connection drivers could have an effect on this one as could the
db at the back of it. AOLserver is intended for big iron database work
whereas Apache is for small-medium database backed sites. Most people
will never need the real power of AOLserver unless they get above the
medium site traffic level but it is always nice to know it is there.
However many leased line connections in Ireland would become saturated
before the medium traffic levels are reached.

In terms of sheer usability, AOLserver with ADP/TCL is excellent. I am
working on a large db project and tried to write the web handlers in a
number of languages but for sheer speed of prototyping and simplicity,
TCL beats everything. (I still had to use Perl to clean up the data
though.)
