With regard to recent postings about box/web hosting, I've been looking at the
subject for a while now, and have come to the
conclusion that here in the Planet Cafe we have or (or will soon have) the
capacity (physical and, er, bandwidthical) to offer it to the masses. Well, a few of the masses, anyway.
My questions to the list are such:
Would anyone have their box hosted by a cybercafe, even one that promised the
physical security of the box? Would they be happy with the fact that their box
was sharing a 512K leased line with 40 (or more) PCs? (The line capacity may go
up to a meg some time soon).
Assuming anyone was willing to pay for such a service, what sort of funky
services would be expected as part of the package?
And, of course, what would be a *reasonable* fee for such a service be? I've no
desire to overcharge (not to mention undercharge) anyone.
Sorry if those questions smack of commerical opportunism; all flames about
putative off-topicality will be received in the spirit in which they were sent.
