[Webdev] Apache Question - SSI

[Webdev] Apache Question - SSI

Hello All,

I've been trying to figure this out for over a week now and still can't see
what I'm doing wrong, so I hope perhaps someone on the list can help me.
My problem is this: I am trying to use Server Side Includes on Apache. I
edited httpd.conf and uncommented the lines regarding .shtml (AddType,
AddHandler, etc), the Options for the Directory in which the .shtml files
are found are set to: Includes Indexes FollowSymLinks. There is a .htaccess
file in the same directory with the exact same options set. The permissions
on the .shtml files (and the directories in which they are in) are 755.
Apache runs as user nobody. The .shtml files are something like this:

hello

bye

When viewed with a web browser, the page shows the words hello and bye. View
Source and I can see the entire source including the line.
(This file was a test file to see why my other more complicated .shtml files
weren't working, if I can get this working, I'll be able to fix the others
also).

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,
Mike
