[Webdev] Netscape 6.2

[Webdev] Netscape 6.2

Niall O Broin niall at linux.ie
Tue Nov 6 14:27:07 GMT 2001

I installed Netscape 6.2 (about shows Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686;
en-US; rv:0.9.4) Gecko/20011019 Netscape6/6.2) to check how it worked with
an application of mine and I came up with a couple of gotchas:

I can't view source on some pages - so far it seems that it's program
generated pages which I can't view. Note that it's not a cache control issue
as I can save the generated page.

DHTML with layers seems screwed. I have pages using DHTML and layers and
appropriate DHTML and Javascript is produced by the backend for Netscape
4.xx and IE5. However, this code doesn't do what's intended with Netscape
6.2. I fudged the backend code so that I send the output intended for IE no
matter what the browser, in case the Mozilla engine does DHTML the IE way
instead of the old NN way but still no joy. Ideas, anyone ?
