Ayup - 'twere I. No matter what the query, NULL won't match, unless 
specifically asked for.

so where name like"%fred%" won't match NULL names, and nor will where name not 
like "%fred%".  Slightly counterintuitive, IMHO, but then NULL is a special 
case, just like NAN in real arithmetic.
