Stephen Benson is undertaking a dissertation on Linux as part of his degree year at Limerick Institute of Technology. The title is "Linux : Will the free Operating System challenge the commercial offerings?" - he has finished his literature review and would be interested in what, if anything, any ILUG members think at this early stage. He is also looking for volunteers to complete a short survey on Linux within Irish companies, government departments and academic institutions.

Jon Johansen, author of DeCSS (software used to decrypt DVD streams under Linux) has been acquitted.
The Norwegian court in Oslo determined that it is not illegal to use the DeCSS code to watch DVD films obtained by legal means.
