BEA Open Source Milestones

BEA Systems, announced significant milestones in the company's open-source efforts, including code release milestones for Apache Beehive, Apache XMLBeans and the Eclipse Web Tools Platform (WTP). Today's announcement helps to demonstrate the value of BEA's contributions to the open source community as well as the company's strategic commitment to having a leadership role in helping to advance Java, XML and Web Services innovation.

Red Hat has created the Fedora Foundation with the intent of moving Fedora project development work and copyright ownership of contributed code to the Foundation, giving the community greater control in directing future innovation of Fedora.

Stuart Cohen is quoted in an article on the newsforge site, and he does the rounds. He takes a side swipe at several critics of Linux, and in this writers opinion did it rather well.
City moved to Linux and nobody noticed

In this newsforge article you can read about a city that moved to Linux. The are reporting that for an install base of 300 desktop machines and 25 servers they have saved one hundred thousand US dollars per annum. In anyones language that is nice money to not spend.

General Linux Distro Review

Here is a reasonable* review of some of the top distros out there, however its timing had it miss one fact, Mandriva is moving into the .deb space. My use of the word reasonable is defined by what the author wrote about my favorite distro :). It was reported elsewhere I think it deserves a second glance.

The long time law suit started when we were in Expo in 2003 seems to have taken a bit of a turn when following email was made public. I just wonder where the millions of lines of code are now Darl. There appears to be a thing called the Lanham act that might have some bearing on what happens next. You can of course look all this up on the Groklaw site.
