May 2006 Archives January February March April May June July August September October November December Dapper Launch Event (Delayed like the real thing) Posted By Ken Guest - 09:16, 23 May 2006 Edited by Paul O'Malley - 09:16, 23 May 2006 Ubuntu Dapper is being launched on June 1 and ILUG is holding a launch event at 15:30 on Saturday June 10 in the usual venue, the lecture room of the Irish Computer Society in central Dublin, generously provided to us by the ICS. We plan to have a number of talks about Ubuntu and Dapper and other subjects too. We will retire afterwards to a nearby hostelry where we might partake of some fine food and beverages - or chips and beer, as you like. It seems to be getting more press and even Google thinks that it is running on more of its queries. The first thing that strikes a new user of Ubuntu and user of some other GNU/Linux version is that there is no root. There is a good article on the ubuntu wiki called RootSudo which explains this in detail. The next item that jumps out is the amount of help there are docs in /usr/share/docs, however there is a little icon on the top panel that looks like a lifebouy, it contains the help for that version. All this documentation is here. The development version Dapper is due to be released on 1 June 2006, you can get the development versions here, where you can test drive the latest live CD for the x86 64bit or sparc. linux.ie off the air Posted By Paul O'Malley - 20:52, 7 May 2006 We were off the air for a while over Saturday, Sunday due to a cooling failure and the machine then needing "console love", no files were hurt in the making of this production.
