The Beginners Linux Guide Posted By Niall Walsh - 06:39, 6 April 2005 Edited by Ken Guest - 06:39, 6 April 2005
The BLG is one of the more popular areas of our site and is need of some continuous tender loving care. Some pages could be improved while others simply need updating to the latest and greatest the Linux world has to offer.
So have a look and see if you can write a missing page or update an existing one and submit your updates as mentioned on the BLG and to me, chairman@linux.ie (and you can CC to ilug@linux.ie for a bit of distributed proof reading if you're brave).
The almost definitive list of all distros Posted By Paul O'Malley - 18:41, 4 April 2005
Recently I was asked "what are the different types of Linux?", while the question did not sit well with me I understood what the person was getting at. Well for those who don't know this great little place on the internet it is called distrowatch.

When a site says stuff like this : "When
Millions of people have made the same switch before you, so it's not impossible. We are going to take you step-by-step through a whole migration from Windows to Linux, covering everything from picking the right Linux distribution to installing Linux applications." I just had to throw a link to it.

The Groklaw story is here. It is reporting this, Barry O' Donovan's mail announcing a document being sent to alert MEP's on the actual dangers of Software Patents. Barry will be speaking in the RDS on the subject of the KDE Kiosk a system administration tool which is designed to be used to centrally customize a desktop setup, during the ICT Expo in April.
Site Updates: February to March Posted By Ken Guest - 00:49, 17 March 2005
All changes are now listed in a Changelog - some will be evident to everybody and others only if you have the relevant access rights.
In short, I've put more work into the News Postings archive and search engine, along with localisation, vCards and a bit more.
EXPO 2005 Posted By Paul O'Malley - 21:49, 14 March 2005 Edited by Paul O'Malley - 21:49, 14 March 2005
This year yet again we are involved with the
ICT EXPO. We are looking for people to help out on the stand. The mailing list has been set up for the event and can be found here.
This rather low volume list will be the place where information will be passed between the people helping out on the stand. This year we have will have several speakers from our membership. In the main they will be doing case studies about various open source programs and the benefits these programs bring to various organisations. The list of speakers is on the ICT Expo site.
