Pixar Animation Studios has changed out Sun Microsystems Unix servers in its 'render farm' with eight new blade servers with Intel processors from Rackspace. The blade system servers contain a total of 1,024 Intel 2.8GHz Xeon processors, and run on the Linux operating system.

Bill Gates is taking Linux very seriously - but apparently, still not seriously enough to actually understand it. Speaking to the Microsoft MVP Summit on Tuesday he bracketed Linux with other 'kill the company' threats to Microsoft, giving OS/2 as a prime example.

$99, give or take $20, seems to be the new price point for full-featured, consumer-level Linux distributions. This is a great deal for non-technical users, since most of the new-wave consumer Linux products give users a much prettier and easier experience than traditional, all-GPL distributions tailored for a geeky user base.
