Unless this is a joke. First r u using a dist. or u build yourself. Run setup
if u can for the modem and consider your mouse if serial these two conflict
easy. Do u run gpm for console or u go into X at boot if so try not doing it.
/etc/rc.d/rc.local perhaps?
