They're using HDSL kit to replicate ISDN circuits over copper - with some
success (short distance) and much problems (everywhere else). Off the record
their engineers on the ground aren't happy about the xDSL technology and
confident of how its being implemented.
There are major test sites in the US and my understanding is that straight data
over the circuits runs to 2Mb and beyond no problem. Trying to put anything
else over the circuit does have implications.
As ever TE will deny everything and promise everything - the proof for me is
what the engineers say - once they're more confident (and proficient!) it could
be very interesting.
There is a xDSL news/user group on the web and there is a variety of
manufacturers involved - again my understanding is that some of these work well
and others just don't.
