[ILUG] What we can do with the donation.

Heya,

After a good chat with Ken last night, Ken came up with the idea of a Linux
fair, something similar to the Windows exhibition that occurs annually in the
RDS. At first it seemed a bit far fetched, but on thinking last night, it
probably isnt.

The forwarded mail mentioned a sum with three zeros at the end. For arguments
sake we could call it a thousand. A thousand pounds would more than cover
sending out invitations for resellers and manufacturers to purchase stalls in
the RDS. Once the revenue for the stands is collected, it would be above the
cost for the rent for the RDS indoor hall. We could ask Dell (Who are
obviously keen to promote Linux), to provide a network to Demonstrate on. In
exchange we could promote the Dell computers as a source of Linux compatible
pre built machines. The possibilities for this are virtually unlimited.

Mailshotting companies and showing them what Linux could do would be a real
money spinner too. After all, if they choose to install Linux, they are bound
to need technical support at some stage or another. Being optomistic, most
savvy companies will have heard of Linux at this stage, through word of mouth,
or otherwise - if enough interest is generated, we could turn it into an
annually occuring event.

Stepping back and looking at the big picture (Which is damn hard atm, I lost
my glasses and cant see a thing ;), something like this is going to take a
year, perhaps two to sort out properly. Does anyone want to put forward ideas
or suggestions?

Owen
