[ILUG] Dealing with the press, a mini-howto...

Want to contribute to linux but don't have the time or skills to
write the next killer app? Drop a line to the press.

Over the past few months I've been sending the press mail. Polite
(ish) responses to stories once every few weeks. Both on positive and
negative stories. In addition I file away responses in a folder
marked Linux.

So when this Mindcraft benchmark came out, I sent mail to several
of them and pointing out the problems with the study and urging
them to look at the study critically. I emailed four or five of them
(it's all I had time for), and hopefully they'll remember the info
*before* they write a linux article.

I don't want to tell anyone what to do, but it seems to me to be a
good and honest tactic at combatting FUD. If you do it, check your
facts, be as polite as possible, and try to be as open as you
feel comfortable being. I sign off with my full name and address
so they know I'm not a crank.

OK, hop off the soapbox now...

Kevin
