There's a great way of putting a fairly quick end to the mindframe that
forwards this type of crap around
#1 for people in same company or wherever etc, requires you to have
control of your mail server & involves public abuse of the person who was
kind enuf to forward this notification on to your overworked & underpaid
self.
Reply to clueless user (including verbatim copy of original mail)
abuse this person for being "thick as a ditch" & falling for BS
Inform them that their e-mail "privs" will be revoked until
further notice. Include any other rants that you believe worth
typing (though think hard about them b4 sending for obvious
reasons)
cc this mail to "all at domain youcompany"
The only person not to get this mail will be the one that you are telling
off but they will manage to read it somehow so there's no need to
worry about the message not getting through plus you have made an example
of someone.
I've done this twice here (the second person wasn't working here when the
first notice was sent around) and I have to say that it's VERY effective.
#2 someone outside your control sends you this shit
run one of those little 3 line mail-bomber scripts that e-mails a
prepared file with the same general message contained within.
Let it run for a few hours. ok you can kiss you bandwidth good
bye for a while, but I think that it's worth it in the long run
despite not being as effective as the first method.
& no I'm not a BOFH (unless pissed off)
