Hi all,

I've recently been hacking on a cool tool for my PalmPilot, and I reckon it's
almost time to release it. I know there's a few people here with Pilots, so
anyone fancy beta testing? Here's the top-level description from the README:

This perl script will download news from web sites and convert it
automatically into PalmPilot DOC or text format.

HTTP and local files, using the file:/// protocol, are both supported.

Multiple types of sites are supported:

1-level sites, where the text to be converted is all present on one page
(such as Slashdot, Linux Weekly News, BluesNews, NTKnow, Ars Technica);

2-level sites, where the text to be converted is linked to from a Table of
Contents page (such as Wired News, BBC News, and I, Cringely);

3-level sites, where the text to be converted is linked to from a Table of
Contents page, which in turned is linked to from a list of issues page
(such as PalmPower).

In addition sites that post news as items on one big page, such as
Slashdot, Ars Technica, and BluesNews, are supported using diff.

The script is portable to most UNIX variants that support perl, as well as
the Win32 platform (tested with ActivePerl 5.00502 build 509).

Get it from http://www.clubi.ie/jmason/software/snarfnews-0.5.tar.gz or
http://www.clubi.ie/jmason/software/snarfnews-0.5.zip .

There _are_ bugs BTW, this is the first public release. However it does
its job reasonably well; most of the bugs are along the lines of the
script downloading articles you've already read, etc.

Give it a go, and feel free to report bugs to <jmason at domain clubi.ie>. (I won't
guarantee a quick response tho' ;)
