Garret,
We have a load of customers that use 10.x and 192.168.x networks for
internal networks with Linux based proxies. Last year (after a bit of
troubleshooting), I fixed a few proxies that for no reason stopped working
because private IPs didn't have dns entries. The funny thing is it all
happened in and around the same day, to all of the customers :) It was
fixed by adding host entries for each private ip (something we've done
since that day for customer proxies). Today, a few more broke (older ones
that didn't break last year) :) but this time things stopped routing and :
read-rfc1918-for-details.iana.net popped up for anything that was a
private ip. Once again fixed by host entries.. I saw something about it on
some redhat lists and thought this info might be handy to anyone
experience that problem right about now :)
btw. I think iana added dns for the private assigned ips :
nslookup 10.0.0.5 128.9.128.127
Server: darkstar.isi.edu
Address: 128.9.128.127
Name: read-rfc1918-for-details.iana.net
Address: 10.0.0.5
[johnb at domain shell johnb]$ nslookup 10.0.5.5 128.9.128.127
Server: darkstar.isi.edu
Address: 128.9.128.127
Name: read-rfc1918-for-details.iana.net
Address: 10.0.5.5
[johnb at domain shell johnb]$ nslookup 10.25.5.5 128.9.128.127
Server: darkstar.isi.edu
Address: 128.9.128.127
Name: read-rfc1918-for-details.iana.net
Address: 10.25.5.5
which is what caused peoples shit to break :)
