Amazing how, slowly but surely, all the old great engineering
companies are turning into MS box shifters:
HP, DEC, SGI.. even IBM..
Saw an ad in time magazine for HP's vectra pc espousing how it had a
3com nic, intel chipset and processor, etc. sad.
DEC: when they started to slide in the 80's, the management had the
great idea of differentiating themselves by moving into the
cut-throat pc business. now look.
SGI: The guy who tried to change HP into a MS box shifter moved to
SGI, and it looks like he'll succeed there.
what is the allure to these CEO's of selling boxes that everybody
else is selling??
