Unless I'm mistaken, you seem to be trying to use it to read the password
file for logons. The password sync option is so that when you change your
SMB Password (smbpasswd), it changes your UNIX password as well.
I don't think there's any way (currently), of getting it to read /etc/passwd
for logons (unless you can pamify it).
