Yes.

Dirt cheap (well, comparatively) linux system broke it in
just over 22 hours, IIRC.

It wasn't special in the sense of silicon, just in the
sense that no-one had tried such a particular setup before
for serious power jobs : they just tended to use
monolithic machines.
