Hi all,
Sorry about the OT,
but I've got this Chap who I'm thinking of hosting his site(temporally) on
my server.
But he has a domain name that conflicts with a world wide company, very big
one at that.
(I've replaced the company name with "verybigcompany")
Their company name is part of the domain name
e.g. www.verybigcompany-country.com
He mailed this on to me, which he received from the verybigcompany:
____________________________________________________________________________
The registration, dealing in and use of the "verybigcompany.COM" site
infringes the intellectual property rights that verybigcompany holds.
We require you to forthwith :
1. Remove the domain name registration from the ebid.ie auction site
2. Confirm to us in writing that you will transfer ownership of the domain
name
to verybigcompany free of any charge and will further bear all reasonable
administrative costs incurred by verybigcompany in the course of such
transfer.
3. Confirm to us in writing that you have not registered any other domain
names
containing or relating to the verybigcompany name.
4. Confirm to us in writing that you undertake not to register at any time
in
the future any domain name containing or relating either to the
verybigcompany name,
or to any of verybigcompany' trade marks and products.
Unless we receive confirmation that you have undertaken the above actions
within
7 days of today's date, we will take further action to protect our rights.

I know there are laws about domain names etc
but what are the exact laws with domain names and does the same law
apply to all countries. I mean what chance has he got. Very slim I'd reckon.
And would I be liable if I hosted his Site?
Cheers
Wayne C.
