linus never really expressed an opinion, but other notable kernel guru's
like H Peter Anvin and Alexander Viro hated the idea. Alan Cox liked it in
principle, but wasn't sure about the namespace/implementation. however over
the last few devfs patches, a lot of changes are noted with "as requested by
linus".. so...
even weirder, hpa has just posted in the p6 microcode thread something to
the effect of "devfs is better for <location for microcode driver inode>".
