If, for whatever reason, you decide not to put Solaris on support with Sun,
and you didn't purchase hardware from Sun (and their dealers/resellers - If
it's not Sun kit), you must pay that much. You could, of course, simply put it
on the machine anyway, and get away with it.
It's not realistic to expect people to be in a position to have bought a
machine that big and not have a support contract.
