Hi,
you haven't indicated what model of Mac it is, or the previous
version of MacOS on it, but ...
there are boot diskd available from the apple site for OS versions
around 7.5.x . See
http://ftp.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English
- -North_American/Macintosh/System/System_7.5_Update_2.0/
You'll need a mac to download them to and create the disk. These
disks have utilities to initialise the hard disk, make it bootable
and then format it. You'll then need either a Macos CD or download
the floppy version from the apple site (13 disks) and install via
floppy - takes about an hour. As with the boot disk, you'll need
another mac to create the floppy disks for the install.
My powerbook has died a horrible death, so I can't help you any
further.
Gary

Subject: [ILUG] Installing MkLinux
Evenin',
I've had a mac under my desk for ages and I needed another server, so
last
week I tried to install MkLinux onto it. I got into the install
program
ok, partitioned the disk, and it was installing grand until it died
with
some errors I can't remember.
So anyway I rebooted and now it won't boot off the CD anymore. I
think
this is because I have nuked the mac system drive, so it doesn't know
where to boot from, though I was under the impression that I would be
able
to boot off a CD.
Unfortunately the original mac os cd's that came with this mac have
long
since, so is there anything I can do to get it booting again? Is
there
such a thing as a boot disk for a mac? or somewhere I can get a cd
image
that I can boot off? Or is there something like a BIOS for a mac
that
I can get into?
So basically is there anything I can do with what I have or do I need
to
find someone who can lend me a MacOS cd and reinstall off that to get
it
working again?
My knowledge of mac os & hardware is severely limited, so any help,
advice
appreciated!
Thanks,
Dave
