I finally got a reply about Learning Logic.
Synopsis:
The program cost is:
1) $19,000 - a one-time server license fee for the life of the server
This entitles a school to all future updates of program math
courseware, features, and enhancements. New development is
automatically downloaded via modem when they become available.
2) $25 per student user per year. This covers:
* a consumable handbook for each student user each year.
* teacher initial and update training registration and materials
* Learning Logic Newsletter
Not being used to paying for software, initially, this seems a bit high. But
considering how good the package seems, it might just be worth it. I'm sure lots
of people on this list has much more experience with licensing costs than I do.
Needless to say, I can't afford to purchase this software for testing purposes,
but judging from the info I've seen and the number of schools that are currently
using it, I think I can recommend this programme with a clear conscience.
We still need to work on the Facilities replacement. I think that, being just a
database, Linux has the database tools we need, so we just need two things.
1) A tool for converting the Facilities data to a Linux-friendly format.
2) A user-friendly front-end for data entry and generating various reports.
John Bolger is familiar with the data format information. As for the front-end,
From what I've heard, Facilities would NOT be a good starting point. We should
just find out how teachers and staff would like to interface with the data, and
some of the general reports that would be needed.
