I've used something like:

pine -inbox-path='\''{site.com/pop3}inbox'\'' -user-domain=site.com -smtp-server=outgoing.site.com'

in a shell alias in the past. Thus I'd type `zpine' instead of just `pine',
or suitably set up a launch thing for gnome to use.
