This might be of interest:

AFAIR:
In the UK BT will *guarantee* 19,200 bps over the PSTN
In Ireland TE will only *guarantee* 9,600 bps over the PSTN

That said, on a line that's dodgy for voice calls at times, I have rarely
had line related connection problems to ClubI

Modem Choice:
Internal ISA Rockwell V.90 / K56Flex Dual Standard

<Hint>
If you have a choice *Always* go for an Internal ISA or an External modem
(preferably Rockwell Chipset)
PCI Modems (even those with a UART onboard) are a waste of bandwidth, unless
you've got a 16750 / 16850 onboard - and if you have, what the hell are you
doing using the POTS ??
</Hint>

Any PCI Modem I've heard of (esp with Rockwell chipsets) are UARTless
modems, which begs the question, the UART in HSP modems is emulated in
software, where's a bright spark programmer with too much time on his (her)
hands when you need one ?? They're all fairly similar I'll bet.

The challange is now officially out there, we shouldn't complain, we're
intelligent (aren't we ??) ... <Incites the crowd>

You get the drift, I'll stop rambling now :o)

Proinnsias
