Mornin',
Is the list quite today, or is it just me?
I ain't got my usual 30-40 messages yet. Not even one.
What am I going to do? Without my ILUG mail to read, I
might even have to... ...study!!!
Anway, we (being 3rd year computer engineering students)
have to pick our final year projects (fyp for you non-student
types :-) before next friday. I kinda want to do a project
of my own, but I wanted to get some comments on it from
ye guys first. Here goes (quoted from a previous email
to a lecturer, but I'm too lazy to rewrite it :-):
MP3's are a very popular way to store and exchange
music. I have approx 2.5gbs of mp3's on my hard disk
at home. When you're playing a game, such as quake,
you can get it to play tracks off an audio cd. What
I want to do, is write an application that takes the
output of an mp3 decoder program, and present it to
the system as another cd-rom drive. It would accept
the commands to play, pause, next/previous tracks etc.,
and pass these back to the mp3 decoder. Basicly, it
would pretend to be an audio cd to the point where a
normal cd-player program would see and use it just
like a normal cd-rom drive. I intend to implement
this under Linux. I have used Linux or 3 years now,
and it is a lot easier to get information and support
than if I did this in windows.
I would of course GPL this if allowed, and you can all share
in it's glorious advantages :-) Any comments etc gladly
appreciated, even if you are just shouting at me.
Steve
