The most common cause of noise coming from the power supply is a worn
bearing in the cooling fan.
This isn't fatal and the PSU just keeps on working quite happily, so I
wouldn't panic too much.
However for the sake of your sanity you'll want to stop the noise.
If you're a "get in there and tinker about" kinda guy, a new fan will cost a
little less than a new power supply and you won't have to worry about AT/ATX
etc. Open up the supply and have a look at your fan to make sure you get one
of the correct size and voltage (last time I did this I think it was a 40mm
5vdc fan, but the mists of time....)
You can buy a suitable replacement fan from Farnell or Radionics.
If you don't have access to these suppliers or if you're not a "GITATA"
kinda guy......just change the damned PSU!
