 IE was bought from Mosaic. The whole internet thing for microsoft was a
case of

 1993 - The internet doesn't exist
 1995 - You don't want the internet, you want MSN
 1997 - Here's $2 billion in development and marketing money. We want to
        buy the internet
 1999 - We invented the internet.

 I'd still say it's more accurate to say that we the internet developed
*despite* Microsoft, not because of them.
