Neatness. Anything that's downloaded, and isn't RPM'd goes in /usr/local.
the idea being that when I reinstall/upgrade, I just do
rpm -qa > /usr/local/rpms.txt
and backup /usr/local, and I've the system back the way I want it, if
problems happen.
