Kong, Hungry, India, Austria, Preu, Mexico???
I'd call them significant, don't get me wrong but doesn't a lot of comsumers
live there?

And you can in fact register straight into the .ca domain, at least you
could when I last looked.
The only two significant countries outside the US that demand that you
register in a second level domain are Australia and the UK. I know the
Aussies and the British like to think they make up most of the world,
but please don't encourage them in this!
