what, no responses? this is the *linux* users list, right?
Kevin Dobey burst across the net:

i'm the "admin" and essentially the story goes like this:
boot the machine with a redhat 6.0 bootnet.img
answer prompts until getting to the net question.
select a dec 205
at this point it fails. alt-f3 will show that it can't find the module for
a dec205 (e3wrks.o or something like that). if you mount the floppy, uncompress
the intrd.img file on it, and then mount it you'll find a modules.cgz file.
it should have the e3wrks.o module in it, but it doesn't. i can build a floppy
that has it, but i have a few things i'm unsure of, and if someone could
help i'd appreciate it:
first, how do i make the modules.cgz file? it's a gzipped cpio archive.
could someone peek and tell me what setup and options i should use?
second, i'll need a specific version number for the module built into
it. the kernel i'm running 2.2.5 is the same, but the boot disk has
something like BOOT#4 or BOOT#14 appended to it. any idea how to
recreate that?
>(I don't have root access to the linux box here so I can mount the the files
>to see or dd them to floppy to try - and the admin is away)
sorry, i should have chmod 666 /dev/fd0. next time! :)
