It's so magic that it works, according to some of the aforementioned people,
without having any special terminating equipment in the exchange. I would
respectfully submit that that is real magic - way past advanced technology.

Still waiting for anyone, from Genesis or wherever, to take me up on my C
note bet that I will not be able to get high speed[1] access from Genesis in my
house this year.
[1] What does this mean ? You tell me - Genesis is already reneging on the
previously mentioned 45Mbit/sec, or claiming that most of that will be for
video on demand. I think they're now proposing 1Mbit/sec IP. Frankly, 256K
of always on for 20 quid a month would make me happy as a pig in shit, but
I'm not holding my breath (which, I suppose, a pig in shit must do).
