Hi,

I have a (SMP) RH6.1 installation and want to be able to log in
remotely using an X window and have access back to my display.

I managed to do part of this by taking the following steps:-

a) uncomment the following line in /etc/inetd.conf
exec stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.rexecd

b) log in using rexec from an X package (Exceed in this case)
/usr/X11R6/bin/xterm -ls -display XXX.YYY.ZZZ.AAA:0 -bg black -fg green -fn
rom14 +sb +vb -T linux +wf

Problem:

If I edit something, the machine doesn't seem to have permission
to write to my display.
"_X11TransSocketINETConnect: Can't connect: errno = 4"

My DISPLAY environment doesn't seem to be being used as
I have to specify -display with any X programs.

Running "xhost +<my machine> doesn't help.

Any ideas, folks? (Please no XDMCP).

-Mark.

P.S. This is what is running by default.

root 17152 580 0 11:53 ? 00:00:00 /etc/X11/X -auth
/var/gdm/:0.Xauth :0
root 17153 580 0 11:53 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/gdm -nodaemon
gdm 17160 17153 0 11:53 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/gdmlogin
--disable-sound --disable-crash-dialog
