thanks for the reply,
saw something to do with mtu/mru in the docs... default is 1500 under ppp (mtu
anyway) i did try making it smaller, but made no improvement. might try bigger,
though i imagine that the default value should be ok.
Something on www to do with 'doze said frame errors maybe due to bad line (but
then should happen with windows), or with some error correction issue between
modem and isp. I think though, that that should be taken care of by the init
strings AT.. etc sent to the modem (does some ppp option need to be changed for
this?) which are same for win and linux
