Seriously though.... some thoughts.

1. Has the dept. of Education got a syllabus for computer studies in
schools? I'd reckon that, if they do, or are developing one at present,
that an approach could be made by the ILUG Education Committee and a
proposal put forward emphasising the eminent suitability of Linux as a base
for seriuos computer study vis-a-vis Windows et al. This would tie in
nicely with the input required for Sligo IT that Adam talked about earlier.

2. Perhaps the Dept. of Ed might give grand assistance for the supply of
Distros in schools. You could approach this on two fronts, first off,
supply Corel for the casual users and provide RH or Debian for the more
technically minded. Red Hat or any of the various suppliers might also be
generous if approached as distributing OS's to schools is a good way to rope
in a client base at a young age. Microsoft are doing this already.

3. The committee might also arrange a form of the tutorial days for schools
where tutorials on the basics would be provided for a while with progression
to more advanced topics later on. Again various associations or suppliers
might like to see their brands associated with this initiative.

These are some thoughts I have but I'd be interested in getting input into
such a working group should one be organised as I'm interested in education
and the IT variety in particular.
