Mark,
It looks like your 'smart-ass' has run the setuname(1m)
maintenance command to change the operating system name.
The setuname(1m) command run without the "-t" (temporary)
option will create a file /etc/rc2.d/S18setuname with
the following content:
------------------------oOo--------------------------------
# MyOS
#
# This script, generated by the setuname command,
# sets the system's system-name
#
setuname -t -s MyOS
------------------------oOo--------------------------------
To revert back to the default operating system name (SunOS):
# rm /etc/rc2.d/S18setuname
then run:
# setuname -t -s SunOS
HTH
Cormac
