That's appallingly slow... I don't have the exact figures, but my IBM 8.5
drive benched about 7 under Linux 2.2 (VIA UDMA drivers)
Even tweaked heavily it didn't shift much off that (although I got it past
8MB/s by running it as part of a software RAID :-)
