[ILUG] [OFF TOPIC] Satellite linkup from Africa project

I'm doing some techincal specing on a mad project that was dreamed up after
far too much beer in the Porterhouse one Friday night.

Aoife (who is know to some of us here) is going to Africa on a 3 month
mission to.. actually I don't know what it is shes doing exactly... walk
about or something.

Anyway: we want to have a web site with a daily travel log including photos
taken from a digital camera. The main bits of equipment we need for this is
the following:

(1). Motorola Iridium portable handset
(2). Some sort of PDA / computational device with keyboard
(3). Digital camera
(4). GPS
(5). Solar charger

Most bits are stright forward. However what I need advice on is item (2).
Everything needs to fit on a belt. Item (2) must be to download photos from
the digital camera and zap them by email or whatever via the Iridium
satellite phone (2400bps should be possible with Iridium).

A Linux "box" would be perfect. However how small a device can Linux run on.
Must have Keyboard and RS232 for camera and must be power efficient. A Psion
machine might also do the trick.

If anyone has direct experience with this kind of setup I would love to hear
from them.

Thanks

Joe.
