[ILUG] testing NICs

I have a suspect network card and I want to test it. I have a PC with 3
NICs in it now, and I'm using a crossover cable, so I can make any 2 talk
to one-another. Say they have IPs of 10.0.0.1, 2 and 3. The problem is that
it's hard to test things. If I ping any of these addresses the traffic will
never actually travel across the cable. So my question is: is there a way
to force traffic along the wire? I'm not sure this question even makes
sense. I kinda Linux to pretend that the IP address is AND isn't a local
one, simultaneously.

I do have another PC to test it in but it would be easier to just use one
PC and also, I'm just curious about whether this can be done,
