Hmm... x-cd-roast will only deal with SCSI devices (it uses cdrecord to do
the dirty work). Check the cdrecord homepage (freshmeat) and see what he
has to say, but will the IDE-SCSI emulation thing work with paride?
You could also try rm /dev/sg0, ln -s /dev/pg0 /dev/sg0 to give you the generic
scsi device, but it probably won't work :(

Not that I know of, apart from buying an SB Live! and the optical board,
which will set you back a total of 160 quid (and give you a nice sound card).
Apart from that you can: Extract the mp3 to wav, record to CD, get a cd player
with optical out, and record from that to minidisc... not much fun :(
