Replying to my own message [sorry]
I've been playing around with dosfsck and it continues to segfault on
one partition despite the fact that the originally offending drives have
been nicely cleaned up.
Can anyone eithir suggest why it is segfaulting or an alternative or a
way to fix it?
Or am I on the completely wrong track and is what's below with scary
errors about partitions not ending on cylinder boundaries what is reall
wrong?

Sorry to keep pestering, I'm just in a bit of a predicament. I have no
means of backup whatsoever and this is my only drive.
