Hi,
I am trying to run a program using rsh. I have got past all
the environment issues. The program I am trying to launch
is basically a daemon. It disconnects itself from the local
terminal after it starts. So if you launch it from the command
line, you will immediately see the prompt returned and the
process in question is running in the background and its ppid is 1
and its tty is ?.
When I run the same program using rsh, rsh does not return I
kill the process. So even though the process being launched
disconnects from the launching terminal (its ppid does go
to one and its tty does go to ?) rsh sits there waiting until
it has exited.
So how do I get rsh to return immediately?
This is currently on a HP machine but I need the same script to
work on AIX, DEC, and Linux.
Regards,
Mark
