XMMS has this neat extra-stereo booster-plugin that certainly improves
(IMHO, not my beighbours') the noize I play. Especially what's currently
playing. I have an SBLive! with beta-drivers that can't properly reproduce
the waveforms certain mildly experimental bands produce.

I'd recommend against using GOGO if it's not based on the latest version of
lame (3.83+)! If based on lame 3.5x or so, it'll produce some pretty
fork()ed up sounds, if it even completes the stream. If you have a
crappy stereo or cheap earbuds (like the ones with Diamond MP3 players),
you can probably survive with any kind of encoder. I have about 1.5 gigs
of MP3 I've encoded from my CD collection and regret, though.
