i've never ever had problems with Lame.. ripped+encoded a CD last night
with it and grip.
segfaults: is your machine stable in general? mp3 encoding is quite
demanding of a machine, so if you have hardware problems lame would show
them up.
what happens if you compile a kernel. (another good stress tester, esp
with make -j 2+)
