If they're both linux boxen, you should just be able to tar up the
setiathome dir, bring it home and untar it. The opposite should work for
the upload part. Just make sure setiathome isn't running at the time on
either box. If you can't run setiathome at work to get the unit, then
there might be a problem. It does work through a proxy, though so it
should just be a matter of tracing the request to see.

This all seems like a bit of extra hassle, though. Modems are cheap and
it only takes a few minutes to set one up (see
http://linux.ie/ConnectionScripts.html). The upload/download of the work
units takes less than a minute on a 56k modem.
