or if you want to send it as an attachment you can use mutt:

mutt user at domain domain.tld -s 'your subject here' -a filecontainingtexttosend

also, in your mail line it should be:

mail user at domain domain.tld -s 'your subject here' < filecontainingtexttosend

in general try it out on the command line, and then drop it into
your crontab. also note that errors/output will be mailed to you
(unless you request otherwise).
