Hi,
I've installed RH6.1, installed kernel headers and sources 2.2-14 and
recompiled a new kernel to included ppp support as well as other things. ppp
was complied in as a module and check for module version numbers was set to
no. However, everything works bar ppp. Using redhats front end to wvdial the
following errors are displayed in /var/log/messages
"can't locate module char-major-108"
"the remote system is required to authenicate itself but i could not find
any suitable secret (password) for it to do so"
i also tried using kppp with and without DNS 1 & 2 enabled. I'm connecting
to eircoms free service and its worked before.
Is there meant to be a file /dev/ppp0 ? and how do i find where module
char-major-108 is?
